I wonder if they'll be on the soundtrack.  It looks like Temporary Blues would be a great track for it. 

It does increase the likelihood that I'll see this one.

Is it common practice to use a song in a movie's trailer that won't be on the soundtrack?  I would imagine that if you're going to pay for the song, you might as well use it as much as you can.

It's not a guarantee. They get paid for the trailer but to be in the movie as incidental music (on a radio in the background), featured in the movie (montage cut to the music), and on the soundtrack, are three different things. Just all depends on how it falls. I remember when Josh Rouse was in Vanilla Sky, the editor had put it in as a temp track and Cameron Crowe fell in love with it. They offered Josh a "take it or leave it" amount of money and moved on. So who knows what happened in the Features case.

I went to see Extract this weekend.  It's a very funny movie (especially if you like Mike Judge's sense of humor).  However, it didn't contain any music from The Features.

During the credits, I noticed that the music was done by George S. Clinton, who has ties to MTSU and Nashville.  That could explain how The Features were able to get on the radar and have a song used in the movie's trailer.
