I can't vouch for their career as a whole, but their first album is a top 10 of all time for me. I can't wait!
I thought they only had one album. Can't say that I'm pumped, but I would love to hear an elaboration on why you like that one so much.
I think the main reason that I never bought any of the newer material is that the original guitarist was fired/quit after the 2nd album, and his playing was one of the things I liked most about their first album.
I think their first album strikes a perfect balance between emotional and kick-ass. It sounds great. It's simply and gracefully produced. The playing is great by all players. I like Jenkins' lyrics (most of the time). I will admit that he seems like a real d-bag in real life, but I think he's a great vocalist (at least he was on that album). Download a few of these songs and tell me they aren't great.
-"Losing a Whole Year"
-"Narcolepsy"
-"Graduate"
-"I Want You"
-"The Background"
-"Motorcycle Drive By"
-"God of Wine"
Heck, I even like "Semi-Charmed Life" even though it was played into the ground on the radio. What a great pop song, you know? Three chords and the truth about crystal meth. And "How's It Going to Be" is a powerful song as well.
And I think this album, unlike many that I loved in the 90s, has aged really, really well.
