Is anyone else as pumped as I am to go see Third Eye Blind at the Cannery Ballroom?  I can't vouch for their career as a whole, but their first album is a top 10 of all time for me.  I can't wait!

I loved the first album back then (when I was in 8th grade) and I think it still holds up today. I don't listen to it at all, but when I did a year or so ago, I thought it was as good now as then. The second album I remember liking a lot too, but my musical taste changed a bit during their hiatus before the third album.

I am fascinated by the rabid respect and fandom that 3EB has online. And that their new album debuted in the billboard top 100. 3EB is back...as an underground indie sensation. Weird.

I think the main reason that I never bought any of the newer material is that the original guitarist was fired/quit after the 2nd album, and his playing was one of the things I liked most about their first album. 

I think their first album strikes a perfect balance between emotional and kick-ass.  It sounds great.  It's simply and gracefully produced.  The playing is great by all players.  I like Jenkins' lyrics (most of the time).  I will admit that he seems like a real d-bag in real life, but I think he's a great vocalist (at least he was on that album).  Download a few of these songs and tell me they aren't great.

Heck, I even like "Semi-Charmed Life" even though it was played into the ground on the radio.  What a great pop song, you know? Three chords and the truth about crystal meth.  And "How's It Going to Be" is a powerful song as well.

And I think this album, unlike many that I loved in the 90s, has aged really, really well.

When I started my new motorcycling hobby, I naturally thought, "I need a motorcycle playlist!"  So I scoured the Internet for songs about motorcycles and traveling.  I happened across "Motorcycle Drive By."  At first I was disappointed because it wasn't about motorcycles at all.  (Whatever happened to truth in advertising?)

However, even after just one listen, it really grabbed me (which doesn't happen very often).  I think it's an amazing song that I find strangely comforting during romantically troubled times.

I have to respectfully disagree. Listen to the album version (non-radio edit) and try to convince me that a 5 minute song with a 2 minute bridge is a good pop song. The radio edit is awful too, but at least it makes sense as far as the arrangement goes. That being said, that mother-fucker gets stuck in your head for weeks if you accidentally hear it.

I very much enjoyed this show.  My wife has fallen in love with Third Eye Blind, now, and wants to take a trip to see them again next month.
